Alan Keyes to speak at Hillsdale, Michigan, rally
Feb. 7th event for the Ten Commandments January 21, 2004 HILLSDALE, MICHIGAN - Former United Nations Ambassador and two-time presidential candidate Alan Keyes will speak at a Rally for the Ten Commandments at Hillsdale Assembly of God on Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 4:00pm. The rally is sponsored by Vision America, America 21, Declaration Foundation, Renew America, Minutemen United, Pass the Salt Ministries, Hillsdale College Republicans, Hillsdale College Liberals, Hillsdale Catholic Society, Citizens for Traditional Values, Attorney General Mike Cox, Hillsdale Assembly of God, and Downriver Christian Community Church. "Alan Keyes is one of my heroes, and nobody alive today in America is as great of an orator as Dr. Keyes," said rally organizer and Hillsdale College student Hans Zeiger. "Alan Keyes has a message that must be heard by Americans because it is a message about our very survival as a nation." Keyes committed to speak at the rally as a part of a tour he has been on to defend the right of Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore to display the Ten Commandments in the Alabama Supreme Court building. Last year, a federal judge ruled that Moore's Decalogue monument in the rotunda of his courthouse violated the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. When Moore refused to remove the monument, his fellow justices ordered it dismantled and a judicial ethics board suspended the chief justice. Ambassador Keyes argues that the federally ordered removal of the Ten Commandments is itself unconstitutional. "This establishes, in the literal sense, a uniform regime of atheism in government affairs," Keyes wrote for WorldNetDaily.com in August. Keyes ran for president in 1996 and 2000, and he currently serves as president of the Declaration Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Americans about the Declaration of Independence. A former ambassador to the United Nations Social and Economic Council, Keyes also hosted a nationally syndicated radio talk show throughout the 1990s called "America's Wake Up Call," and in 2002 he hosted the MSNBC prime time commentary program "Alan Keyes is Making Sense." Ambassador Keyes holds a PhD in government from Harvard, speaks five languages, and is the author of two best-selling books, Masters of the Dream and Our Character, Our Future. "Ambassador Keyes is a champion of the pro-life cause and a hero of the conservative movement across America," said Zeiger. Ambassador Keyes will be joined at the Rally for the Ten Commandments by Dr. Rick Scarborough, president of Vision America and author of Enough is Enough, and Coach Dave Daubenmire of Pass the Salt Ministries and Minutemen United, a veteran football coach, motivational speaker and radio talk show host. Michigan State Senator Cameron Brown will also speak, and Hillsdale College President Dr. Larry Arnn will introduce Ambassador Keyes. Event organizers expect a capacity crowd at the Hillsdale Assembly of God on February 7. For the purpose of securing seats, a donation of $5 is requested, but not required. A freewill offering will be taken during the rally to support Vision America's continued rally efforts around the nation. Keyes will also speak at a $75 per ticket private VIP reception at the Hillsdale Assembly of God at 2:30 pm prior to the rally.
