From the President's Desk
By Dr. Richard Ferrier, President March 31, 2003 Fellow Declarationists, The people of the Declaration, and almost 50 allied states, are now at war with the tyrant in Baghdad. In risking our citizens and spending our treasure in this war, we are sustaining the principles of the Founders. The first aim of good government is the public safety. The Baath Party and its despotic head have, for many years, given aid and comfort to those who attack America and her friends. They have developed and hidden weapons of mass destruction, in violation of common decency and international mandates, for more than a decade. When their conquest of Kuwait was rolled back in 1991, they bombarded the cities of our friends in Israel, a neutral party. They rule by fear. They openly admire the greatest mass murderers of the 20th Century, Hitler and Stalin. They oppress religious and ethnic minorities in their own land, and their ambitions are to impose a reign of terror over a region whose peace is an international and human concern of the first rank, the land of the Patriarch Abraham and the countries near it, including the Holy Land. The conduct of the war by Hussein and his thugs gives ample witness to the character of the foe. American restraint and benevolence shine out by way of contrast. It is striking how much of our European support comes from the brave peoples who recently overthrew Soviet totalitarianism, with the aid of America under the leadership of President Ronald Reagan. As President of the Declaration Foundation, I wish to proclaim here, on our site, my wholehearted support of our troops, our allies, and our government in this struggle. Seeking with confidence Divine Protection of our forces and Favor for our ends, we look forward to the vindication of our cause, and to a just and growing peace in the region.
